A hug is worth a thousand words.
Hugging is an intimate form of affection and is one of the best ways to show someone how much you love and care for them, and if someone is a mutual acquaintance, a hug is a more personal way of acknowledging their presence.
I believe that the type of hug you receive or give tells a lot about where you stand relationally with the person who’s embracing you or the person you’re embracing.
This post is particularly for ladies who are trying to figure out where they stand with a guy that they like, and one of the easiest ways to find out is to decipher the type of hug you’re receiving from your crush.
So ladies, take note.
When a guy hugs you and he closes his arms around your upper back and he stands at a bit of a distance away from you, it means that he’s willing to be friendly with you. He probably considers you as an acquaintance, hence the respectful and personable embrace.
I don’t really like the upper-back hug, but I do understand why one would give this embrace because I tend to do the same with acquaintances. Don’t expect any real affection from these hugs.
Now you know that you’ve made it past the acquaintance zone when a guy gives you the waist hug. His hands wrapped around your waist and very little distance between the two of you is a very good sign of affection, and it shows that he could be interested in you.
If this hug lingers for a while with ear chitter-chatter and giggles, it means that the two of you are flirting and probably falling for each other. The waist hug is always good because it’s more personal, more affectionate and ultimately says “I like you and I want to know you better”.
The most dreadful hugs ever are those side hugs where only the shoulders touch, and if the hips happen to touch, it’s a miracle. Those are the most impersonal hugs ever, and your heart should sink when you receive them. It’s better to not be hugged at all than to receive side hugs.
If you get a high 5 or a fist bump, know that you’re one of the boys and you’re snugly fitted into the friend-zone. At this point, you can decide if you want to be your crush’s “buddy” or if you want to walk away and forget about him.
Bear in mind ladies that the types of hugs you give can also be deciphered in the same way because it’s all about body language. Guys will probably understand where they stand with you relationally through how you embrace them.
So, now that you know what each type of hug means, be aware of the hugs you receive (and give) because they reveal a lot about the level of relationship.
