How Lack Of Sleep Can Affect your Health

Lack of sleep not only affects your mind, mood & concentration, it also affects your health, specially WEIGHT. It increases your waistline & makes you bulky.

On average, we need about 7.5 hrs. of quality sleep per night. If you are getting this another half hour will not help you lose 10 kgs, but if you are five-hour sleeper & start to sleep for seven hours a night, you will start dropping weight.

Improper sleep leads to the consumption of foods that gives quick energy. When you don't get proper enough sleep, you feel a lack of energy while performing your daily chores. This leads you to increase your intake of instant energy-giving foods like potato chips, fried stuff & sugary stuff with other foods with high carbohydrate & fat content. As a result, you may end up accumulating more kilos on your body.

Sleep deprivation has a negative effect on your mind too as it prevents you from having complete control of your brain, which may ultimately make you a bad decision-maker, especially when it comes to the choice of food. You may lack the mental clarity required to avoid calorie-rich foods & may try to fulfill your food craving with the first available serving of food. You likely munch on unhealthy snacks in greater quantity.

Lack of sleep hurts cognitive processes like thinking & learning in many ways. First, it impairs attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning & problem-solving.

Lack of sleep results in the improper functioning of your metabolism & increase the hormone GHRELIN (responsible for regulating the frequency of food intake) & decrease the amount of the hormone LEPTIN (responsible for indicating when to stop food consumption). More Ghrelin & lesser Leptin imply more amount of food consumption, leading to weight gain. When you are sleep deprived, you have more ghrelin & less Leptin.

Lack of sleep ages your skin. It can lead to lackluster skin, fine lines & dark circles under the eyes.
