Eric Omondi and Jacky Maribe

After years of keeping it a secret father of her child, former Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe has finally let the cat out of the bag.

Maribe shared a picture of herself with her four-year-old son, Zahari, leaning on comedian Eric Omondi.

Maribe refers to the comedian as her son’s father putting to rest speculations that have long been going around of the child’s paternity.

“Family first. Happy graduation day Zahari. We, mum and dad @ericomondi, are proud of you!” wrote Ms. Maribe alongside the cute family photo.

Eric, on the other hand, also posted the same picture on his Instagram page, writing the word “family” as the caption of the photo.

The two dated back in 2014 but later parted ways under unclear circumstances. Maribe later flaunted her baby bump but was elusive in commenting about the father of her child.

The comedian also, on numerous occasions, has evaded the paternity questions (on Maribe’s son) thrown at him during interviews. Both Maribe and Omondi are single.

Eric went on to date Italian Chantal Graziola but broke up earlier this year, while Ms. Maribe became engaged to Joseph Irungu alias Jowie. The latter is currently in remand as the prime suspect in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani

To both of you, my friends, God’s blessings! Bishop na pia President walisema, “Wanaosema, Wacha waseme! Au so?” he said.

Eric Omondi Breakup with Italian Girlfriend

Eric Omondi and Chantal ended their four-year courtship with Instagram posts.

Their breakup was met with skepticism as Eric Omondi has been known to pull stunts in the past. In addition, a few days ago, he had announced that he was planning an ‘international’ wedding and was pinning his hopes on Kenyans, who he expects will contribute Sh80 million for the dowry payment, pre-wedding, and main wedding.

However, the diminutive comedian has revealed that their breakup is for real-sies this time.

Eric disclosed that he felt like he was a stumbling block to Chantal because, in her bid to make their relationship work, she neglected her career. The comedian revealed that Chantal wanted to go to school and join Emirates but put her dreams on pause.

“It has been four and a half years since we started out. Since we seem not to be making any progress. First of all, Chantal is young, and I consider myself a bit old. I feel like I have been a stumbling block for her as my career has been progressing yet, as she committed to making this work, hers has been stagnating. She has been ensuring that my brand works, but what am I doing for her? It is a long-distance relationship because her family lives in Italy, and she only comes here for like six months to visit me. I am not growing any younger,” he told SDE.

Since things were not working as they had hoped they decided to set each other free. “The only solution was for us to set each other free. I was suffocating Chantal… I want her to be free, to get on and discover herself. I want her to make decisions without feeling like I am holding her back. That applies to me, too,” Eric said.

The former Churchill Show comedian revealed that if their paths crossed again, they could make it work, but if their paths never cross again, he is cool with it too. “If our paths collide again, then, well and well. If she finds another man and I find another woman, then so be it. But I want everyone to know that Chantal and I love each other so much and that there are no ill feelings.”

Chantal speaks

In a post on Instagram, Chantal confirmed the breakup and said that maintaining a long-distance relationship has been difficult.

“Hello guys, I hope this finds you well. I have been silent for a while…Eric and I have had long discussions for the past one month. As you all know, my family lives in Italy, and it’s been really challenging for both of us. I love Eric, and I will always love him, and we are okay; we created the best of moments together, we shared our dreams and visions, but most importantly, we shared our lives. And I will always cherish every single moment. As I write this post, I want to ask God always to protect you and your dreams until our paths meet again. I hate goodbyes, so it’s not a goodbye. It's more like a see you later. I will always be here for you ANYTIME, ANY DAY @ericomondi,” read her post.

Eric Omondi Career

Eric Omondi is a stand-up comedian, a brand ambassador for OLX Kenya and Dola Flour. As with any successful comedian who knows the value of correct timing, last year, Eric decided to leave the Churchill Show. But it was a big decision that was going to further his journey in finding out what he wanted out of his career. With Daniel Ndambuki’s blessings, Eric Omondi left the nest and went to “fend for himself.” Even though making people laugh was always one of the things he wanted to do in life, Omondi reveals that he desperately wanted to be a reporter.

After all, his years studying communication at Daystar University in Nairobi had prepared him to work as a reporter and, if he succeeded, moved on to become a news anchor, or so he thought. However, with just one story in at NTV, his career as a reporter only lasted two weeks. “I worked at NTV as a reporter for two weeks, and I did one story after which they kicked me out. It was very bad. I was told I wasn’t good enough. Eric Omondi Just a year after landing the Churchill Live show, luck once again smiled upon Omondi when he got the news that he would star in his own comedy show, Hawayu, on KTN.

The show meant more money and higher status as one of Kenya’s leading comedians. That too, like his journalism career, was a moment of fleeting excitement as the show was canceled after one season due to poor ratings. Although there was so much negative feedback, it helped him understand his audience and craft more. He also got a major flop of a show on NTV, which did not last. From reciting poems, being an unofficial MC, the star attraction on Churchill Live, starting his own comedy show which failed to feature in Night of a Thousand Laughs, Omondi has had quite an exciting run. And he is not yet done.

Eric Omondi is also the LATO MILK ambassador in Kenya and also landed himself the role of Kenya Wildlife Service Rhino ambassador to help protect the endangered animals. His craft has, however, taken him beyond Kenya, and he has held shows in the US, South Africa, and Nigeria. In March, BBC ranked Eric Omondi as the 9th funniest man in Africa on a list topped by Trevor Noah and Basketmouth.
