Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) courses for intake 2021

Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is a government agency of the Ministry of Education, Kenya. KISE is run by a council appointed by the Minister for Education. The institute conducts teacher training courses for teachers of children with special needs and disabilities. The institute also runs a pre-school department where training and the stimulation of young children with special needs and disabilities is carried out for the purpose of teacher training.

Courses  offered for open distance and online learning include;

  • Diploma in Guidance and Counseling
  • Certificate in Inclusive Education
  • Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language
  • Certificate in Orientation and Mobility
  • Certificate in Educational Audiology
  • Certificate in Functional Assessment
  • Certificate in Education of Learners with Cerebral Palsy
  • Certificate in Braille
  • Certificate in ECCDE
  • Certificate in Guidance and Counseling
  • Certificate in Low Vision

KENYA INSTITUTE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION APPLICATION 2025 INTAKE

Start with these steps to apply for KISE 2024/2025 intake:

  • Pick a course
  • Ensure that you meet the requirements for the course you want to pursue.
  • Go to the online application site
  • Click on “Online Students Registration”
  • New Users of the site should click on “Create account”, else enter your email and password and log in.
  • The portal will take you through the rest of the process on how to pay the application fee, and so on.
  • You can also download the offline application form and submit it physically to ADMISSIONS OFFICE, Kenya Institute of Special Education, P.O. Box 48413, 00100-NAIROBI.
  • On the day of admission, you MUST bring with you the following documents:
    • Original admission letter together with this joining instructions.
    • Original Academic certificates and certified photocopies of the same.
    • School leaving certificates and certified photocopies of the same.
    • Original letter of appointment from the Teachers Service Commission and
      a certified photocopy of the same.
    • Confirmation of appointment and a certified photocopy of the same.
    • Certificate of registration as a teacher and a certified photocopy of the
      same.
    • Original P1 certificate and a certified photocopy of the same.
    • Original national identity card and a certified photocopy of the same
      (both sides).
    • Birth certificate and copy of the same.
    • Two recent passport size photographs (not photo me) certified by your
      Head Teacher or Sub County Director of Education.
    • One copy of medical form duly completed, signed & stamped by the
      Government medical officer. (A medical examination form is attached)
    • Approved Study Leave from TSC

THINGS TO NOTE:

The Kenya Institute of Special Education conducts intake screening in January, May, and September. This means that the chances of missing out on the admission opportunity are slim.

Applicants should process their applications before the closing dates.

All Candidates will have to pay the application fee whether they gain admission or not.

The Institution does not accept cash payment.

The Institution will likely announce the results of the intake exercise two weeks after the closing date.

The Institution issues admission letters only to those who meet the requirements. once you download your KISE admission letter you have full rights of a student with access to the KISE student portal where you can carry out tasks on the go.

PAY KISE APPLICATION FEE 2025

There are two possible payment methods available for the Kenya Institute of Special Education 2025 intake applicants. The two payment methods are MPESA payment and direct bank deposit.

To pay via bank, deposit the application fee into:

  • KCB – Ngara Branch, Account No. 1128797836 (For new students use National Identity Card as your admission number)

To pay via M-Pesa, start with the following steps:

  1. Go to M-PESA on your phone.
  2. Select “Lipa Na M-PESA” option
  3. Select the “Pay Bill” option.
  4. Enter 851201 as M-PESA PAYBILL /Business number
  5. Type in the Reference number as sent to your mobile phone
  6. select the Amount you intend to pay
  7. Enter your M-PESA PIN and Send.

Additionally, the application fee receipt is to be uploaded to the application portal. However, only PDF format is accepted.
