Wearing ripped jeans or what is sometimes referred to as rugged jeans is a trend. Ripped jeans are denim jeans with tears or rips, often on the knees but sometimes in other areas on the pants. The rips on pants can come as result of; frequent use; your own doing or; ripped during the manufacturing process as a fashion style. Ripped jeans were very popular in the late 1980s but they have since made a comeback in 2010s.
Most of the people that have interacted with me and come to know me, have never seen me in jeans let alone ripped ones. But recently, my 15-year-old son put pressure on me and insisted saying, “mummy! you must buy ripped jeans!” I thought to myself, “I might actually look great in them”. So, I decide to buy one, after all, I have for a long time been formal, too formal I must add. It was time to relax.
Once I bought the jeans, the next thing was learning how to style them. One of the pointers my son gave me was to, fold them at the bottom and throw on a jacket and I was good to go. I have since made ripped jeans my favorite weekend and travel wear. I am enjoying the casual feel brought on by the jeans. I realize that they also make a person approachable, I believe they have made me more approachable.
