TSC Teachers July Recruitment to "Favor" Interns

TSC Teachers July Recruitment to "Favor" Interns

Teachers Service Commission is Constitutionally mandated to register, hire, transfer, promote and exercise disciplinary control over teachers in basic education.

Pursuant to its mandate, the commission recently advertised 9000 job vacancies in Secondary schools so as to address the biting Shortage of teachers due to 100% transition.

Currently, there are over 300000 unemployed teachers and therefore expectations were high among them.

However, the joy of many was cut short Immediately the marking scheme for the recruitment was out.

Intern teachers were given a whooping 30 marks giving them a very big advantage over others.

The marking scheme also seems to favor Diploma holders whose distinction is now at par with the first-class honors of a degree holder. They both fetch 40 marks.

According to the daily nation Monday, some teachers are now crying foul following this move by TSC.

Teachers teaching in private schools and boards of management are some of the most disadvantaged. The teachers now are calling for TSC to review the marking scheme and level the playground.

It's worth noting that there has been pressure from unions to have interns confirmed without being subjected to interviews for the second time.

Perhaps this is why the commission decided to give these teachers a headstart over others who have never worked for the commission.

The outcry from these teachers over high intern marks undoubtedly puts TSC between a rock and a hard place.

Teachers have up to July 12 to apply online for the vacancies after which the shortlisted ones will be invited for interviews by the respective schools.

The commission at the same time advertised for 1000 vacancies for primary teachers wishing to teach in Secondary schools.

This will be considered as a Promotion given that their job groups will change to C2 for those with degrees with a mean of C+ and above. They too must have scored C+ in the teaching subjects.

Do you think the commission is fair in giving Intern teachers 30 marks? Feel free to share your thoughts and comments on this on our comments platform.
