Whether you are planning to join or are already a student of KMTC this information will help you understand how the college works and all its information.
What is KMTC
The Kenya Medical Training College, KMTC is well known as
the best training college for medical courses in the region. KMTC is a state
corporation established in 1990 that trains students in various health
disciplines for the health sector and works under the Ministry of Health.
Did you know KMTC started with only 4 students!
Yes, that is right.
The Kenya Medical Training College started in 1927 with only
four students at the Kabete Institute of Admission(KIA) in Kabete. It was only
in 1990 that the college was made a government agency through an Act if
Parliament, Cap 261 Legal Notice No. 14 Laws of Kenya and in 1994 the name
Kenya Medical Training College was adopted.
Today this college that started with only 4 students has
over 41,000 students taking 76 medical courses across the country. It also
employs over 2200 staff members to attend to their campuses.
KMTC established itself as the biggest contributor to the
country’s health sector producing over 12,000 graduates every year who go on to
work in both public and private health sectors. That’s about 85 per cent of the
country’s health workforce.
Expanding KMTC beyond Kenya
The massiveness of KMTC is not only visible in Kenya but
also outside the country’s borders. There is a KMTC branch/campus in every
corner of the country and in every county, located strategically next to
hospitals.
This idea ensures that students learning in those colleges
can attend clinical attachments and gain practical experiences from the
hospitals near them. For this reason KMTC has attracted students from Rwanda,
Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Nigeria and beyond.
It is the largest medical training institution in East and
Central Africa.
KMTC Headquarters
KMTC headquarters lie on a 20-acre piece of land north parts
of Nairobi, Kenya. Its headquarters also house the main campus and is located
along old Mbagathi Road opposite Kenyatta National Hospital.
KMTC branches
The growth of KMTC has been due to its many branches spread
across the country that makes it convenient to learn from any location. KMTC
has about 71 constituent campuses spread throughout the country from as far as
Garissa to Mombasa to Western and Kisumu. We have arranged the list of campuses
