How to Become a Prize Donor

There are two types of Donors.  The first type of Donor is that whose prize(s) comprises of awards to students of all the Faculties or Colleges of the University e.g. the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trust Fund or the University of Nairobi Alumni Association Prize.

The second type of Donor is the one who is from Industry or academia and targets to mentor through the award(s), students training in specific fields e.g. Metsec Cables Ltd Prize which targets students in Engineering, Kenya Institute of Planners which targets students of Planning in the Built Environment, Kenya Veterinary Board which targets students of Veterinary Sciences, Kenya Medical Association which targets students of Medicine, Pfizer Pharmaceuticas Prize which targets students studying Pharmacy, Ngotho Chartered Arbitrators Prize which targets students studying Real Estate and Law, The Zani Award for students studying Kiswahili, Prof. Jane Kabubo Mariara Awards for students studying Economics, Price Waterhouse Coopers Prize for students of Business, Hamilton Harrison and Mathews – Le Pelley Prize for student of Law, Agrochemicals Association of Kenya Award for students of Agriculture, Dr Joseph R. Mukabana, MBS Award for student of Meteorology among many others.

Individuals or Corporates interested in being University Prize Donors, are encouraged to get in touch with the specific Academic Department, Faculty or School with which they wish to partner in the mentorship of students.  They would then together with the Chaiman of Department or Dean/Director of Faculty/School craft the scope of their proposed award.

This is then presented formally to the Department/Faculty/School which then presents the proposal to the Deans Committee for consideration.  Once approved, the Donor will get formal communication from the University and the Prize is adopted as a University Prize.

Where a potential Donor is not clear on where they may wish their award to be domiciled, they may contact the Academic Registrar and together, the two parties would be able to work out modalities of the award.

For any queries on this and related matters, prospective Donors may contact the Academic Registrar on the email at reg-academic@uonbi.ac.ke or telephone number 0204913027.
