EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Seventh Day Adventist church Hakairu is a young vibrant growing Centre of influence under the pastorship of Stephen Gakono. The church looks forward to be organized soon as a fully-fledged church under the sisterhood of CKC churches. The Church is a missionary-centered congregation actively seeking to fulfill the great commission of Jesus as outlined in Matthew 28:18-20. Our missionary work is embedded in the overarching vision “In harmony with Bible revelation, Seventh-day Adventists see as the climax of God’s plan the restoration of all His creation to full harmony with His perfect will and righteousness”: Mission “Make disciples of Jesus Christ who live as His loving witnesses and proclaim to all people the everlasting gospel of the Three Angels’ Messages in preparation for His soon return (Matt 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, Rev 14:6-12)”. Our approach is also guided by the Bible and the Holy Spirit, Seventh-day Adventists pursue this mission through Christ-like living, communicating, discipling, teaching, healing, and serving. Hakairu church is Sabbath School that is soon to be organized into an independent church. The church was born as a result of a one-month evangelistic total member involvement [TMI] campaign conducted in 2017. This was as a collaboration of Kenyatta University S.D.A church and Ruiru Central S.D.A church. From one member baptized after this campaign, the church has experienced rapid growth, currently with a membership of 80 members [50 adults and 30 children]. The missionary work was based on the message that Cities are “becoming hot beds of vice.    ” providing “enticements to sensuality and dissipation.” MH 363. The city’s inhabitants are caught up in an, “intense passion for money getting” and the “whirl of excitement and pleasure seeking.” In short, the city is a concentration of the wretchedness of sin, calling out the worst in human nature, “turning the mind from life’s true purpose” and “opening the door to a thousand evils.” MH 364. God requires that we shall give the message of present truth to every city, and not keep the work bound up in a few places. Wherever an opening for the truth can be found, there let men be stationed who are capable of presenting its teachings with a power and conviction that will reach hearts. The judgments of God are being stayed that the voice of truth may be heard in its simplicity. Let those who have a part in this sacred work be wide awake and each endeavour to labour in God's appointed way. Let none set up as the Lord's way the way of human devising. Other Manuscripts, vol. 10, pg.216-217. “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew28:19-20, New International Version Bible) “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8, New International Version Bible).

Problem statement

From the start, Hakairu church has experienced a great challenge in securing a place of worship within the locality where the church identified the need to continue with its missionary work: so far, the church has been hosted temporarily in 5 different sites and this has resulted to loss of some church members, making it even harder to retrace them back into the fold. Currently, the church is hosted by Julia epitome school located 2 km off Thika road. Our worship services are held under a tent, which is too small to accommodate members; to the extreme that we are sometimes forced to improvise makeshift shades to protect members from the scorching sun. During the rainy season, this improvised shade percolates water, making it extremely uncomfortable during the worship service. Besides, the lack of access to the facility during school days for mid-week prayers and bible study seminars, workshops, and training is much more challenging. The church also lacks a proper revenue base to fund the project on its own without any support from an external source. The main revenue source is members’ offerings, gifts, and internal fundraisers who are mostly composed of young people yet to stabilize financially. Allowing the church to continue renting without owning its property is a recipe for trouble in the near future with the skyrocketing appreciation rates of land in the area.

Justification

With the growing and versatile nature of the missionary work of evangelism, the need for an operational base that will both ease the steering of the S.D.A vision and be relevant and of value to the community is more than needful. This has necessitated the need for financial aid to purchase a piece of Land approximately 60 by 120 ft in Kiambu county, Ruiru sub-County, Theta ward to build a permanent structure to prepare her members for the second coming of Christ. It will also facilitate her operations and support members’ activities on worship, discipleship, and social service which can be developing the members’ spirituality as well as the wider community and remain relevant as a center of influence. Further, it will help in planting and multiplying churches, training and equipping, and sending out missionaries to make a local and global impact in telling stories about Jesus and his redemptive work.

Our objectives

1.      By the end of 2022 to purchase a 60 by 120 ft piece of land for construction of Hakairu SDA Church

2.      To construct a permanent Church structure to accommodate up to 500 congregants by 2023

Fundraising and implementation Approach

The Hakairu Sabbath school in close collaboration with Ruiru SDA Church under Pastor Stephen Gakono is seeking support from well-wishers, and individual and corporate donor agencies to raise funds to implement this project. Other in-kind donations including construction materials, land, and labor will also support the church to achieve its objectives within the established timeframes. The church shall also raise funds through monthly voluntary member contributions to help towards meeting the targeted financial goal. So far, our church has raised Ksh 200,000 and is still determined to raise more.

Our financial Appeal

We are seeking your financial support to help in raising 10 million Kenyan shillings by the second quarter of 2022.
