One of the reasons I like being a freelancer is the fact
that I can
work from home – and virtually anywhere else I want. The idea of
waking up super early to battle traffic and do it all over again in the evening
and the foreseeable future just doesn’t resonate with me. Besides, by the time
you get to the office, so much has already taken up your head space and by the
time you kick start your work, your productivity levels won’t be where they
should be.
This is why I advocate for working from home:
1. Work-life balance
One of the many advantages of working from home is that
employees are able to balance work and their normal daily life. It means that
employees can break away for a rejuvenating nap should they need it , and they
can recapture lost time by working a little longer into the evening from the
comfort of their house. At home with a flexible work-from-home environment, an
employee can fluidly navigate being pulled from both ends.
2. Cost Saving
Working from home will help you save not only your time but
your money too. You won’t have to force yourself into a suit and polished shoes
anymore. You will also save a lot of from the money you would have used to get
your wardrobe to buy office equipment.
You will also save a lot on food costs since you will easily
be able to eat from home. Those who drive to work in the morning are also
able to save on gas.
3. Environmental friendly
Working from home can be less stressful as you are in power
to create a conducive environment and space from which you want to work in.
Based on how you set your office from home, you’ll also monitor the
distractions from work and hence create a more friendly working environment
without any interruptions.
4. More Productivity
Research has shown that those employees who work at home are
more productive than their counter parts. This is maybe due to how conducive
working from home can get. Most employees working from home are able to manage
their schedule at their own pace and hence deliver their work effectively and
on time.
5 Eliminate Long Commutes
Employees working from home are able to cut out the commute,
which can be both a huge morale booster and a huge time saver. Also on this,
employees are again able to save money on gas or public transportation.
6. Cut out unnecessary expenditure
Working from home means either no office or at the very
least a lot less office space. This also means that the company is able to save
a lot and automatically dedicates the money saved on office space, equipment,
Wi-Fi etc to fund other project or increase employees’ salaries
7. Increases Employee Loyalty
Most people who have had the chance to work from home would
never dream of giving it up because of the convenience it comes with. By giving
your employees this chance, they will extremely be loyal to your company.
8. Employees take fewer sick days
Colds and food poisoning make going to into the office
miserable, but working from home is not so bad. Employees who are mildly sick
can still get work done most of the time if it means not having to go into the
office.
Of course, every thing has its pros and cons. One of the
cons about working from home is if you have no discipline, not much will be
done. It’s better if you have a strict work schedule for 3 hours then use the
rest to better yourself, for example by taking online courses.
