Curriculum / Programme
NO.1 BRITISH CURRICULUM SCHOOL
High School Curriculum
At our international Secondary / High School
in Nairobi, learning commences with one year of Pre-IGCSE study in Year 9,
leading to a two-year IGCSE course in Years 10 and 11. Upon successful
completion of their IGCSE examinations, Secondary pupils may progress to AS
and A2-level
courses in Years 12 and 13 before moving forward in their education to
universities across the globe.
The range of available Secondary / High School
subjects is extensive compared to many other UK-accredited international
institutions, demonstrating Brookhouse’s reputation as a No.1 British
curriculum school.
Towards the end of Year 9, students may select
their preferred subjects for the IGCSE course to
personalise their education to their interests and future study choices. IGCSE
subject options include Music, Law, Drama, Psychology, Sociology, Economics and
Business Studies.
Parents sometimes need clarification about the
benefits of the UK curriculum when making comparisons to the Kenyan KCPE/KCSE
system. Confusion may also be present because we follow a northern hemisphere
academic year from August to June at Brookhouse, while the Kenyan academic
calendar runs from January to December.
Most students who begin their studies at
Brookhouse during Secondary / High School, with prior education in the Kenyan
system, do so after their KCPE or KCSE examinations. Students joining us after
KCPE would typically enter Year 9. However, admission is subject to current
requirements in addition to KCPE marks.
After completing the KCSE examinations, senior
Kenyan National Curriculum students can join us in Year 12. In addition to
meeting the standard application requirements, transfer students should have
attained an average grade of C+ or above for Secondary / High School admission.
Due to our school year commencing in August,
following the British academic calendar, previous Kenyan National Curriculum
Secondary students will have missed a term of School.
However, it is common practice for our
Secondary / High School teachers to assist new students in familiarising
themselves with the pre-IGCSE and IGCSE material. Our specialist experience in
student integration has shown that hard-working Secondary / High School pupils
thrive and achieve outstanding A-level results.
Our inclusive Secondary / High School
department is committed to ensuring learners benefit from the first-class
international education at Brookhouse, regardless of the stage at which they
join. Graduating KCSE students who wish to prepare for study at UK-based higher
education institutions may join the School for the International Foundation
Year (IFY) programme as a focused bridging route towards UK university
entry.
