(TPD) is therefore a career long obligation for all practicing teachers whose
importance cannot be underestimated.
Kenyatta University is a Service Provider Accredited by
the Teachers Service Commission to implement the Teacher Professional
Development Programme (TPD)
WHY TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT?

matter how good pre-service or initial training of a teacher is, it does
not prepare them to meet the emerging challenges in the ever changing
educational landscape.

ensures that the professional knowledge and skills of practicing teachers
are up to date in light of the global trends, with a view to delivering
high quality professional service that meets the expectations of the
education sector and other stakeholders.

where teachers can share expertise and experiences in order to achieve
quality education in teaching and learning institutions.
Kenyatta University invites applications from all TSC
registered teachers in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Institutions in Kenya.
Teachers are encouraged to be part of a remarkable profession and its

University. A blended teaching and learning approach to TPD module delivery
will be employed. Continuing participants and new applicants are invited for
the sessions which will be held in December 2023

MODE OF DELIVERY OF TPD
The TPD programme will be delivered through modules intended
to equip teachers with professional knowledge, skills and attitudes to
address Pedagogy and Content Knowledge using
the Competency Based Teacher Education Model. A Blended
Learning Approach will be used to deliver content of the
modules. This will entail Face to Face sessions
and Online Learning.
- Face
to Face Sessions: The TPD face to face sessions will be conducted
from August 2023 in various designated centres
located at the sub counties to ensure accessibility by all teachers.
- Online
Learning: The TPD programme online delivery that began
in August 2023 is ongoing
The Introductory Module
The 1st session of the Introductory
Module was successfully conducted online in December 2021, other
sessions were successfully conducted in April 2022, July 2022, September 2022,
December 2022 and April 2023. The next online session will be held from
the 21st to 25th August 2023. New applicants are advised to apply
for this session beginning in August, 2023
Other modes of delivery will include:
- Participation
in a country network of teachers to create a community of practice among
teachers.
- Follow
up observation visits to schools by University teacher educators to
provide feedback and support.
- Mentoring
and / or peer observation (Lesson Study).

MODE OF FEES PAYMENT
Applicants for the TPD Course are required to pay Kshs 6,000
