Background Information
Murang’a University of Technology is a fully-fledged public
University located in Murang’a County, Central Kenya. Murang’a University of
Technology (MUT) is the successor of Murang’a University College, a former
constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
MUT was chartered under the Universities Act, 2012 CAP 210 B of the laws of
Kenya.
Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) was chartered on
October 7th, 2016 at Statehouse, Nairobi by H.E. Hon. Uhuru
Kenyatta, C.G.H., President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the
Republic of Kenya. Following the award of the charter, MUT became one of the
thirty-one (31) Chartered Public Universities in Kenya. The University operates
under the provisions of the Universities Act, 2012 (Rev. 2016), guidelines
issued by the Commission for University Education, University Charter and
Statutes.
Murang’a University of Technology, formerly Murang’a
University College (MRUC), was established through Legal Notice No.129 of
September 2011 as a Constituent College of Jomo Kenyatta University of
Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Murang’a University College was a successor
to Murang’a College of Technology (MCT), established in 1975.
Admission Requirements
Different Programmes have different academic requirements to
successfully admit applicants as shown below.
Master’s degree entry requirements are:
- Bachelor’s
degree with at least second-class honors upper division OR
- Bachelor’s
degree with at least second-class honors lowers with two (2) years working
experience in a relevant field.
Bachelor’s degree entry requirements are:
- A
minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ or its equivalent
- Diploma
in a relevant field from an institution recognized by the University senate.
Diploma Courses entry requirements are:
- KCSE
mean grade of C-
- Credit
Pass Certificate in a relevant field OR
- Equivalent
qualification recognized by University Senate.
Certificate Courses entry requirement are:
- KCSE
mean grade of D+ or an equivalent qualification recognized by the
university senate.

Application Process
All application forms can be obtained from the Registrar,
Murang’a University of Technology upon payment of a non‐refundable fee of KES
500/= for Craft courses, KES 1000/= for Diploma courses and KES 1,500 for
Degree courses and KES 2000/= for post-graduate programs.

downloading the application form and deliver the duly filled form by email or
post officer.
Application can also be done through the KUCCPS website by
logging into the students’ portal and filling the application selecting
Murang’a University of Technology as your university of choice.
