As Data Entry is the easiest way of making money online as a beginner, you might be interested to start your career in the Data Entry job field.

Let’s talk about the first question, what are the requirements to become a data entry professional?

As data entry jobs are about Typing, Copy-Pasting, Recording, and Transferring information from one document to another. It could be copying or typing information from a book into a Microsoft Word document, or maybe some data to be transferred from an online resource to an excel or word file, so the key skills you need are very easy to have to start your journey.

Here are the requirements and what should you do to get started:

1/ Knowledge of Operating a Laptop or Desktop Computer:

To become a Data Entry professional and to get started, the very first skill that you need is the ability to operate a computer device.

It is an easy requirement.

Basically, if you know, how to install the necessary software on your PC, create folders and store information, edit file names, move files - that’s it. These are the basic things that you need to know about to be able to start your journey.

And, as you are reading this post, I believe you already got the skill!

2/ Basics of Microsoft Office Program:

The second requirement you need to have is Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, such as Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

If you know nothing about the tools, DON’t WORRY!

These skills are easy to learn.

Simply watch the lessons online, practice a bit and you are all good to go towards the Data Entry Career!

3/ Basic Communication Skills in English:

To start your career as a Data Entry professional, the third requirement is having basic communication skills in English.

Many freshers are afraid of English communication skills, but seriously - this is not as complicated as we think.

If you could understand the message, and instructions of your clients, and if you can ask them questions, reply to them accordingly - that's what you need!

Communication and discussion about a project mostly happen through written messages, or verbally using Skype, Zoom, or Google Meet calls.

You don't have to be a native speaker or a very good English writer to get started.

Again, if you are understanding them, and being able to make them understand you, that's enough to start your career.

In the beginning, I was pretty weak at English, and here is how I got better slowly as days went by.

If you got some lacking in English communication, please start reading today, start practicing today and it will be good as you try over the days.

4/ Basic Online Research Skills:

Not only in Data Entry but to become a Freelancer in any job category, you need to have basic online research skills.

You should be able to find information about any query that the client might gonna ask you.

Or, maybe you're stuck somewhere and need some information on the go, you should be able to find information online to get the solution.

As an example, let's say, a client could ask you to make a list of Top Restaurants from a specific location, with their name, website, street address, city, state, zip code, phone number, email, and so on.

This is really easy to find and you should be able to find that information online and place the information into an Excel or Google spreadsheet for them.

5/ Good Typing Speed:

As Data Entry jobs require a lot of typing, typing speed is a very important requirement of the job role. If you have a typing speed of more than 40 Words per minute, you will have more options and opportunities to get projects.

And, your fast typing skills will help you complete any data entry project faster and efficiently on time.

You can simply start typing any kind of information using your computer keyboard to increase your typing speed.

6/ Experience (Nothing to worry about :-)):

Many employers prefer to hire a person with previous experience for their Data Entry projects. But when you're a complete beginner in the Data Entry job field, it's a bit confusing and you might not have the experience yet.

In this case, you can get help from any person who works in the Data Entry field from your neighborhood, and from social media.

Ask them to send you some Data Entry project samples to work on, which will help you learn more and gain experience.

After watching the lessons of the course online, you will be able to complete the project shared in the lesson, and you can use the works as your portfolio and share them as proof of your work experience in the Data Entry job field - which will help you stand out and get projects from the clients.

Not only the project samples, experience, and portfolio, but after completing the course, you will receive a CERTIFICATE, which you can use when needed to get advantages.

After learning the skills mentioned above, and after practicing for a few days - when you will feel like, you will be able to work on basic Data Entry jobs, simply join the freelance marketplaces, find relevant jobs and start applying to get noticed and hired.
