GOOGLE CHROMECAST: WHAT TO KNOW

GOOGLE CHROMECAST: WHAT TO KNOW

Google Chromecast is a line of media players developed by Google. They are small dongles, which allow the user to transmit video and audio from smartphones to televisions, laptops or cloud services to the television. The main features are:

·        Streaming media. - Chromecast allows you to stream various forms of media from applications such as YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, among others.

·        Cross-platform compatibility. – Chromecast has the ability to work with various operating systems, including Windows, Android, iOS, macOS.

·        Google home. – Chromecast, being a product developed by Google, can be integrated with Google home, which allows the user to control it via voice commands.

ISSUES

However, Google Chromecast has some problems that will be detailed below.

·        Connectivity problems

The correct operation of Chromecast is based on a stable Wi-Fi connection, so if the signal is weak or unstable, connection problems may appear. Additionally, certain network configurations such as firewalls or proxies may not be supported.

·        Casting problems

Although the most popular apps are compatible with Chromecast, certain less popular apps are not compatible with Chromecast. Data transmission latency can be an issue when streaming live content or mirroring.

·        Power problems

Google Chromecast requires a power source of 5[V], 1-1.5[A] (depending on the model), this power source can be taken either from the television's USB port or from a separate power adapter. The problem appears when the power supplies do not supply enough energy.

CONFIGURATION

The configuration can be done for both homes and hotels.

To configure the Google Chromecast device, you must follow the following steps:

·        Physical configuration

The device must be connected to the available HDMI port (the port depends on whether the service is provided by another company), in addition, the device must be connected to a power source, it may be from the TV's USB port or a separate adapter.

·        Change TV input

If the service is provided by an external company, the recommended HDMI port must be connected, otherwise the television remote control must be used to switch to the HDMI input where the Chromecast is connected.

·        Google Home app

The Google home application must be installed on the smartphone or tablet, this works for both Android and iOS. The app will automatically detect the Chromecast device, otherwise it must be detected manually.

The device must connect to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. Within Google home you must change the name of the device, it must have the name of the area where the television is located.

·        Cast content

To cast content from your smartphone or tablet to your TV, you must open a compatible app, tap the cast icon, select the Chromecast name, and the content starts playing on the TV.

If a company provides the service, after setting up the Chromecast, the company must enable the service remotely through the TV's MAC address. When this happens, a QR code is displayed on the television which allows the user to scan it and allow the content of the applications to be transmitted to the television.
